Concern Worldwide and London Irish
London Irish is proud to announce Concern Worldwide as an official charity partner for the 2012/13 season.
Concern Worldwide is an international, humanitarian organisation that works with people living in extreme poverty in 25 of the poorest countries in the world.
Working with over 500 partners and local organisations in these countries we have over 40 years’ experience working on the ground with the world’s most vulnerable people.
In a world of plenty we believe it is unacceptable that one billion people – that’s one in seven– go to bed hungry every night and we work tirelessly to change this fact. We work in partnership with people to help them to improve their lives and to empower them to tackle their immediate problems such as lack of food, water and healthcare.
We often work where other agencies aren’t present – in the most remote and often neglected communities; places like the dusty and barren settlement of Sahgel some 30km from the mountains of Marsabit in remote Northern Kenya.
Teso Diba lives here and faces a daily struggle to provide food for her children. Teso and her family are pastoralists who herd livestock and rely on their animals for food and income, but persistent drought over the last four years has depleted the herd and the animals that are left are weak and harder to sell.
Teso’s four year old son,Umuro, is being treated for severe malnutrition in Concern’s mobile nutrition outreach programme. She explains, “My son Umuro started losing weight and getting sick and I knew it was because I didn’t have enough food in the house.
When Concern arrived at the village, they asked if I wanted to have my children checked and weighed and I was glad someone was seeing him finally. Now he is in the programme he is getting better and stronger.”
Tom Arnold, CEO, Concern Worldwide said, “we are delighted London Irish are supporting Concern this season. It is through partnerships like this and the generous support of the public that Concern can continue to work with people to tackle poverty and transform their lives.”
A donation of just £5 could provide 6 sachets of high-energy therapeutic food to help a severely malnourished child rebuild their strength. To give a gift of £5 now text HELP to 70099, or log on to here. Thank you.
Texts cost £5 plus your standard network rate with Concern receiving £4.95.

In addition to helping Concern Worldwide, London Irish considers all other requests, with special consideration given to those which will benefit our local community. However, our resources are limited and regrettably we are unable to support every appeal we receive. For this reason we are only able to help an individual charity once per season and unfortunately we cannot support fund raising for expeditions.
The areas we predominantly cover are: Berkshire, Hampshire and the Sunbury locality.
Each request must be in writing, telephone applications will not be considered. You should include the registered charity number.
