Hitz participants from London Irish put their talents to the test this half term in the first Hitz Sevens Tournament. Young people from the Irish, Saracens and Harlequins Hitz project took to the field in two age ranges, U14 and under U16 and battled it out in a round robin tournament to see who would come out on top.

For some of the young people, this tournament was the first time they had been involved in a competitive game, the games where fast and fiercely competitive, with all teams showing a huge improvement in skill levels and commitment.

London Irish won all three games in both age groups finishing in top spot!

Dave Christie Hitz project officer for London Irish said: “Although winning on the day is great for us, what was pleasing was the manner in which the games were played. They were fast paced and quite physically contested but all players respected each other and the ref. Some of the young people come from different backgrounds and estates in the same area which can cause problems but you would never have known. This kind of responsible attitude is just a small step on the road to showing people these young people are worthy of your respect and not to be written off.”

Alongside the games, a girls coaching clinic ensured that the development of the girls who attend the Hitz project continued.
