Hitz collects for Comic relief

Date: Thu 14 Feb 2013

Last Saturday (9th February) saw the turn of London Irish to collect for comic relief. 14 of our Hitz participants made the journey to Madejski Stadium from Southwark to take on this role.

Most of the young people had never been to the Madejski stadium so this was quite a big day for them. Once they arrived they took to the challenge well, donning red noses and collecting around the stadium as well as selling raffle tickets to win a signed ball. Avuya, one of the participants, was also chosen to go out onto the pitch at half time to draw the winning raffle ticket. Avuya said: “it’s been a great day, the stadium is huge and to go out on the pitch was amazing.”

Dave Christie, the Hitz project officer, said: “The day has been a great success; our young people have done themselves proud with many of our supporters commenting on how polite they were. It’s great that we get the chance to get our young people involved in events like this and with the money raised by Comic relief it will help us continue to do so.”

The London Irish players also got involved in the day by wearing Comic relief t shirts for their warm up which they have signed and will be up for auction soon.

The work Comic Relief funds in the UK includes the Premiership Rugby HITZ Programme which runs sessions in the heart of the toughest inner city areas, turning around the lives of young people at risk of anti-social behaviour and exclusion from school
